In 1987, three leaders from rural areas of Autauga County, J. E. Bone from the Friendship/Independence area, Ovetta Caver from the Winslow/Shiloh area and J. W. McCullough from the Jones area held a meeting at the Mulberry Community Center on Highway 14 near Statesville.
As a result of that meeting, the West Autauga Water Authority was formed. Due to their efforts, West Autauga Water Authority now serves safe, dependable drinking water to a large portion of western Autauga County. The system consists of approximately 320 miles of water mains, four wells, two treatment plants, four elevated tanks and one booster station. At the present time, the number of active customers is in excess of 1560.
